Many people believe the Grateful Dead is one of the most overrated bands in history. While they have a massive following critics often point to four main reasons why the hype doesn't match the reality: The “Jamming" Problem The biggest complaint is that the band didn't know when to stop. Instead of playing a 3-minute song with a clear beginning middle and end they would jam or noodle for 20 minutes. To a fan, this is exploration. To a critic it's just boring. It often sounds like the band is practicing on stage rather than performing a finished piece of music. Inconsistent Quality Most famous bands are expected to sound professional every night.
